Types

Formal

Business Meeting Presentation is one type of formal presentation. This involves key information which is purpose-led about the company’s products and plans etc.

Academic Lecture is another type of formal presentation. These are performed by an expert, instructor or teacher. These are done for the purpose of giving groups of students a great deal of information of a topic. These are normally done in education settings e.g., college, university etc.

Auctions are also a type of presentation. This is where an auctioneer will stand in front of potential buyers in order to sell good, these are often antiques. The Auctioneer will describe the item and then start the bidding. The bidding amount will increase the more the buyers bid. This will all be presented during the auction, by the Auctioneer.

Informal

In house presentations usually consist of around a dozen people, sometimes more sometimes less, but it is relatively limited. This is because you will need to engage fully with all the participants. They all must be included. These can be a shorter amount of time and less formal.

B2B sales presentations are about products and services and must include 1 to 3 slides. The purpose is to sell what you are offering. You want to mostly highlight what you are selling, with clear information about your product or service. It should be kept short and sweet.

Demo Presentations are between a client (or potential client). It is a meeting to showcase a service or product within the business. It should focus on the key selling points and other relevant features. In a fun way.

Styles

Visual skills in presentations are showing anything to the audience which is visual. Anything within your slides would be visual. One example is images and bold text. Another example could be showing a video or giving handouts to the audience.

Connecter Style is very engaging with the audience. Gestures when speaking is a good example. Encouraging feedback from the audience and their reaction is common. It is all round a very engaging style to the audience. It is also about forming connections.

Story telling is a presentation style in where the person speaking engages by telling a story, in reference to the subject, to capture the audience’s interest. It can evoke emotions and the audience are more likely to agree with your idea.

Skills

Creating slides is something you must do in order to showcase your presentation. You can create your slides within various programmes, such as Power Point and InDesign. These slides should show what you or going to present.

Research and Planning must be taken into consideration. Research and plan before a presentation in order for if to be an effective one. Research your topic well so you know exactly what you want on your slides and make sure to keep in mind your key message and Goal.

Size of Audience, Location, Building are important factors. You must think about and identify these 3 aspects in order for it to be executed and delivered to the audience the best way possible. The building must be big enough to hold the audience. It would also be good to have it in a location which is easily accessible to most people, and also in a quiet area e.g., not a building with road works outside.
